Synopsis

Based on the historical epic novel Suikoden by Kitakata Kenzo.

In early 12th-century China, during the final days of the Northern Song Dynasty, corruption runs rampant under an emperor indifferent to governance. Amid the suffering of the people, low-ranking government official Soukou (Oda Yuji) rises in defiance. Outraged by the state of the nation, he authors “Taiten Gyodo” — a manifesto calling for justice and reform.

With a copy of the text in hand, Soukou’s loyal ally, Ro Chishin sets out across the country in search of comrades who share their vision. Among those drawn into the cause are Oushin, a martial arts instructor for the elite imperial guards known as the Jin Gun, Rinchu, an unmatched master of the spear, and Youshi, a top-ranking military officer.

Meanwhile, feared rebel leader Chou Gai, also watches for the right moment to rise. Eventually, Soukou and Chou Gai join forces and establish a massive fortress on Liangshan Marsh as their base of operations. However, standing in their way is the powerful and corrupt Song regime. Backed by both imperial and regional armies, their greatest threat comes from the secret organization “Seirenji” led by the ruthless official Li Fu, who wields real power from the shadows.
