Synopsis

Thirty-five years after the Battle of Sekigahara. Just as Japan was finally regaining peace in an era of transformation, mysterious creatures suddenly appeared, attacking and devouring humans. These beings, known as “Gun-kyou” prompted the shogunate to secretly dispatch extermination forces, burning down both the creatures and the affected areas to cover up their existence… Far from these disturbances lies the post station town of Tago-shuku. Orin (played by Kimura Fumino), concealing her past as a ninja, lives peacefully as a doctor’s assistant alongside her non-blood-related sister Toki. One day, they decide to journey to a distant village to obtain medicine for Toki’s illness. Upon arriving at the village, they find blood and human flesh scattered everywhere. Then, Gun-kyou, with their horrifyingly transformed appearances, attack Orin. At that moment, Orin vividly recalls a bitter memory from her past. Thus begins Orin’s brutal journey to protect her beloved sister Toki, whom she cherishes as her own child. Meanwhile, there is Shiro (played by Tanaka Juri), a “half Gun-kyou” who transformed while retaining human consciousness, carrying no memories but bearing great suffering. Despised and confined, he searches for a certain person to discover his roots and true identity.
