Synopsis

The depths of the human condition are depicted in this disturbing mystery starring Yasuko Matsuyuki and written by Sachiko Mari. Five women with the same name, ‘Junko,’ toy with the name and become entangled in a web of deception.

Dramatisation of Sachiko Mari’s work of the same name, which is known for portraying the dark side of humanity. This is Mari’s first television adaptation. Junko Satake is detained as a suspect in a string of mysterious deaths. Unrelated to the case, Junko Tanabe, Junko Shinoda, Junko Fukutome, and Junko Morikawa are tossed around under the same name ‘Junko’ and soon find themselves caught in a vortex of malice.

Women’s lifestyles have become increasingly diverse in recent years, in contrast to men, who live in a fixed society as ‘workers’. Women’s relationships have become more complex as a result, and they have found themselves in more than one community. The more societies they belong to, the more issues they confront, and these problems generate jealousy and animosity. The five ‘Junko’s and other women in this novel come from a range of backgrounds, including work, marriage, and having children. It’s a true microcosm of modern civilization.

The lead role is played by Matsuyuki Yasuko, who brilliantly portrayed the emotional turmoil in ‘Serial Drama W: Salt of the Earth’. Directed by Gonno Hajime of Serial Drama W: The Trembling Cow (Furueru Ushi) and Serial Drama W: Temisu no Kyuukei. The script is written by Chiho Watanabe, the duo behind Serial Drama W: Bad Money (Akka), which depicts human desire.
