About Tsushima Keiko

Tsushima Keiko was born in Nagasaki Prefecture in 1926. She dropped out of her music school. She debuted as an actress in 1947 in Shochiku’s “Anjo-ke no Butoukai (The Ball at the Anjo House)” and, from 1947 until 1953, she exclusively appeared in Shochiku’s works. Her first non Shochiku work was 1953’s “Himeyuri no Tou (Himeyuri’s Tower)” made by Toei. She officially left Shochiku in 1954 and became a freelancer before she made an appearance in Kurosawa Akira’s “Shichinin no Samurai (Seven Samurai)”

In 1957, she married now former TBS director Mori Ichio. She took a break from filming movies from 1957-1970 and focused on tv dramas. After 2002 NHK asadora “Sakura” was completed, she took a break from acting. In 2012, she died of stomach cancer in Tokyo at the age of 86.
