Drama-Otaku News! One Month After Launch
Hi everyone! I wanted to check-in and keep everyone abreast of Drama-Otaku’s progress so far. I wanted to write something on our 1 month anniversary which was March 14th, but at the time of this writing, it’s already March 23rd. LOL
Anyway! Happy Belated One Month Anniversary!
We’ve received a great response from the community and we appreciate all the feedback (good or bad)! There’s several areas where we can improve upon, and we’ve been taking notes and adding them to our Trello board.
How do I get support?
If you see any bugs or feature requests, first check our Changelog, it may be there already.
You can also check the Support group and file your bug or feature request there.
Finally, if you need instant support, you can find us below:
- Twitter: @sarsfansubs
- Discord Beta Launch Support: https://discord.gg/tdduZbFd5j
Our Main Staff
Our staff works part-time and on a voluntary basis (we don’t get paid for this and we all have families, school, work, etc. and many other life priorities), so please keep this in mind when contacting us.
- Co-founder, Developer, Support, Community Manager: @amrayu
- Drama Content Lead, Support, Community Manager: @catstreet
- Movie Content Lead, Support: @mightymango
- Content Writers, (Moral) Support: eine and Cat
- Freelance Developer: Max (hired for specific bugs and feature requests)
How are bugs and features prioritized?
- Functional bugs will always be the highest priority
- Features that are often requested and solve a greater common goal
- Cosmetic bugs are generally low priority and are worked on whenever we have time
- Specific feature requests are also set at a lower priority and may or may not be worked on
- Feature requests are weighed by how many people request it and the ROI (time and resources spent versus the potential value it’ll bring to everyone)
- Mobile bugs are low on the list as well because more than 99% of our traffic is from Desktop

Major Features We’ve Pushed Out
- Bookmarks! All pages now have a Bookmark button (similar to Youtube’s Save Playlist feature) which allows you to add anything to the global categories we’ve created (Fave Dramas, Movies, Specials, People, etc.). Most importantly we created a category called “Sub It!” This is for potential fansubbers to see what is requested the most.
- Comment callout widget on Dramas, Movies, and Specials to engage people to comment! We hope you contribute by commenting and engaging with others. This is open to everyone including unregistered guests.
- Media tab is working for Dramas! Contributors can now upload screenshots and other related images. We’ll extend this to Movies, Specials and People once the cosmetic issues are fixed.
- Upcoming Dramas, Movies, Specials slider on the frontpage. This is to keep you up-to-date with what is coming up and being broadcasted/released.
- Spoiler tags! You can now use spoiler tags
in the comments. This is an existing feature that’s built into Disqus, the commenting system. - Ads! We know it looks ugly (a necessary evil), but we want to eventually upgrade the web hosting servers to something faster. This requires a bit of money though, so we’ve added ads to the site. Most ads are turned off for Contributors (fansubbers and other people adding content to the site) and VIP members. If you’d like to support us, please don’t block ads on the site. We’re working on optimizing and placement of the ads to make them less obtrusive, so please be patient. 🙂
- We’ve fixed many bugs and issues throughout the month as well, so you can check out our Changelog if you’re interested to read about them.
Finally, Announcing the Drama-Otaku.com Patreon Account
We started this Patreon account when we first tackled this project a few years ago, but never launched it. If you’d like to support us via this method, you can subscribe to any of the tiers and you’ll become a VIP member on the site with most ads turned off. Visit our Patreon for all the tier details. All proceeds from Patreon will go towards the site and help to maintain it. We will add more specific goals as we get more patrons. Your support is greatly appreciated. 🙂
THANK YOU! Until next time.
