Synopsis

Based on Honda Tetsuya’s bestselling police novel series “The Reiko Himekawa Series,” which has sold over 4 million copies, “Strawberry Night Saga” follows the investigations of compelling cases with rich police procedural detail and complex character dynamics.

After the successful 2010 special drama starring Takeuchi Yuko and subsequent 2012 series (averaging 15.4% ratings), the series returns in 2019 with a fresh cast and new episodes.

Nikaido Fumi stars as Himekawa Reiko, a 27-year-old non-career track detective who has risen to become the youngest female detective sergeant in the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department’s First Investigation Division. Kamenashi Kazuya plays Kikuta Kazuo, Himekawa’s older subordinate – a straightforward, taciturn detective who gradually develops special feelings for her after witnessing her excellence as an investigator.

Eguchi Yosuke plays Katsumata Kensaku, Himekawa’s nemesis and fellow detective sergeant nicknamed “Gantetsu.” A veteran detective with an unmatched arrest record and eight years of Public Security experience, his unorthodox investigation methods often invite suspicion.

The new series includes adaptations of several popular stories from the original novels, including the titular “Strawberry Night,” “Soul Cage” about a murder case without a body, “Invisible Rain” involving yakuza conflicts, and the first-ever adaptation of “Blue Murder” about tracking a mysterious masked serial killer.

The drama promises unpredictable storylines, complex character dynamics, and exploration of justice through the conflicts faced by its detectives, featuring powerful performances from its star-studded cast.
