Synopsis

Japan’s emergency medical care is severely understaffed. Overtime hours per doctor is increasing as they are overworked. In particular, in the field of emergency medical care at night, there are few doctors with a wealth of experience, and on some occasions, they are unable to handle treatments outside their area of specialisation. Despite this situation, a constant stream of seriously ill patients are brought in at night. In such circumstances, medical errors that can kill a patient can occur. Hakuoukai Asahi Kaihin Hospital, a branch hospital of Hakuoukai Group, is about to implement a large-scale reform of working arrangements on a trial basis in order to turn around emergency medical care which is on the brink of collapse. This involves total abolition of the system of doctors on duty and the establishment of a team of emergency medical doctors called Night Doctors who only work at night while maintaining the system of accepting any patient 24 hours 365 days a year. The members of this team are Asakura Mizuki (Haru), Naruse Akito (Tanaka Kei), Fukasawa Arata (Kishi Yuta), Sakuraba Shun (Kitamura Takumi) and Takaoka Sachiho (Okazai Sae). These five doctors of completely different ages, personalities and values begin to work as night doctors with the motto “Refuse no patient.”
