Synopsis

This work tells the story of Miyata Kozue, a fourth-grade elementary school student who struggles to fit into the world around her. Although she attends school, she has no close friends and spends her days slipping out of the classroom or leaving school early. Unknown to those around her, she has a secret habit of throwing objects into the incinerator behind the school building.
 
One summer day, university students from a theater club visit an elementary school to announce their upcoming shadow play performance. Kozue can’t take her eyes off one of them – Suzuki Jinta. Later, after school, Kozue heads to the incinerator and finds Jinta there. Watching him discard something into the flames, Kozue grows even more curious about him.
