Synopsis

Starring in his first-ever WOWOW serial drama lead role — and his first leading role in an adaptation of a Higashino Keigo work – is Katori Shingo. He plays the protagonist, Nakahara Michimasa, a former advertising agency employee who now runs a pet funeral business inherited from his uncle.

Eleven years earlier, a life-altering incident shattered Nakahara’s world, leading to his divorce. Unable to overcome the grief of the past, he continues to live with a deep sense of loneliness and emptiness. One day, a detective who investigated that incident visits him with shocking news: his ex-wife has been murdered by an unknown assailant on the street.

Although the suspect is arrested surprisingly quickly, many aspects of the confession appear suspicious and difficult to explain. Determined to uncover the truth behind his ex-wife’s death, Nakahara begins retracing the path of her life after their separation, gradually revealing secrets that had long remained hidden.

Nishino Fumiya (Akaso Eiji) is a dedicated pediatrician whose life is upended when his father-in-law is arrested for the seemingly random murder of a woman for financial gain. Suddenly thrust into the role of a perpetrator’s family member, he faces public backlash while supporting his wife and seeking to apologize to the victim’s bereaved family. As Fumiya and Nakahara find themselves on opposite sides of the tragedy, they are forced to confront the question: What does true atonement mean?
