Synopsis

Inspired by the delinquent youths and communities Director Yoshida Keisuke encountered in his youth, this film explores the disconnect between boys who lack empathy for social norms and the adults who struggle to reach them. It is a raw portrayal of adults who clash with these troubled teens while refusing to give up on them.

Kengo Nishi, a former delinquent and ex-convict, now runs a fully residential rehabilitation facility called “Mirai no Sato” in a coastal regional city with a view of the sea. Drawing on his own troubled past, Nishi confronts at-risk youth head-on, determined to guide children who are on the verge of going astray. However, his strict reform methods – including the use of corporal punishment – have drawn criticism from education professionals.
Meanwhile, junior high school teacher Kusano Toko approaches Nishi, seeking advice regarding two of her students. At the center of everything is Sawa Kaito, an uncontrollable teenager who is a habitual bully and offender. Upon meeting them, Nishi instantly senses the dangerous instability within Kaito. Exhausted by her son’s severe domestic violence, Kaito’s mother ultimately decides to entrust him to “Mirai no Sato.”
However, Kaito continues to cause trouble with other residents even at the facility, eventually escaping – only to be arrested later in connection with a violent assault case…
