Ikusagami

Netflix are adapting the novel “Ikusagami” into a new series, with Okada Junichi starring as the lead role, alongside working on the series as producer and action planner.

Set in 1878 (in the 11th Year of the Meiji era) 292 highly skilled samurais gather at the Tenryuji Temple in Kyoto in order to compete in a dangerous battle royale, lured by the promise of a grand prize of 100 billion yen. The protagonist Saga Shujiro, decides to participate in order to save his sick wife and child.

Ikusagami has been renewed for a second season. Broadcasting date and full cast yet to be revealed. Details to come!!
 
Released simultaneously worldwide on November 13, the series immediately generated massive buzz both domestically and internationally.
It captured the #1 spot on Netflix’s weekly Global Top 10 for non-English series, ranking in the weekly Top 10 across 88 countries and regions worldwide. In Japan, the series maintained the #1 position for four consecutive weeks from its debut.
The international acclaim extended beyond viewership numbers—the series made history by becoming the first Japanese production nominated for Best Foreign Language Series at North America’s prestigious Critics Choice Awards, cementing its status as a globally recognized achievement in television entertainment.
