Synopsis

In the late Edo period, Iguchi Seibei (Sanada Hiroyuki), a low-ranking samurai lives a quiet life after losing his wife. Burdened with caring for his two young daughters, his aging mother, and repaying debts through side work, he always hurries home immediately after finishing his duties as a grain warehouse clerk. Because of this, his colleagues nickname him “Tasogare Seibei” (“Twilight Seibei”).

Seibei’s life takes a turn when he comes to the aid of his childhood friend Tomoe (Miyazawa Rie), the woman he once loved, after she is divorced by her abusive, drunken husband Koda. His hidden mastery of the sword is revealed, and the clan commands him to undertake an official assassination.
