Nagatan to Aoto: Ichika no Ryouricho

Set in post-war Kyoto around the 1950s, “Nagatan to Aoto” depicts the life of Kuwanoki Ichika (Kadowakii Mugi), the daughter of a long-established ryōtei restaurant, who was left with only a kitchen knife as a keepsake after her husband did not return from war.

Wanting to be independent, she decides to work in the kitchen of a hotel that focused on Western cuisine. Now at 34 years old, Ichika remarries a young man fifteen years younger than her and takes on the challenge to rebuild her family’s restaurant together with her new husband.

This is a gourmet love story that focuses on a couple with an age difference as they develop a bond while working towards saving her family’s long-established ryōtei restaurant. Adapted from the josei manga series “Nagatan to Aoto: Ichika no Ryourijou” (ながたんと青と -いちかの料理帖-) by Isoya Yuki (磯谷友紀).

The previous installment was set in postwar Kyoto and depicted the growing bond between a married couple with a 15-year age gap, who entered a political marriage and worked tirelessly to rebuild the long-established restaurant Kuwanoki. Kadowaki Mugi played the heroine and chef, Kuwanoki Ichika, while Sakuma Ryuto portrayed her husband, Kuwanoki Amane.
 
In the sequel, a “new family member” will come into the lives of Ichika and Amane. Furthermore, the appearance of Yamaguchi Sakae, Amane’s elder brother and the second son of the Yamaguchi family, brings fresh challenges. Just as Kuwanoki begins to recover from financial hardship, new trials emerge, putting the couple’s bond to the test.
