Synopsis

A drama following a third-generation Korean-Japanese woman born in Kobe the month after the Great Hanshin Earthquake, chronicling her twelve years of inner conflict and self-discovery after high school graduation. Caught between her cultural identity and her parents’ memories of the earthquake, the protagonist develops bipolar disorder, but finds hope on her path to recovery in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic. In Nagata Ward, Kobe, an area devastated by the 1995 earthquake, Akari (played by) was born into the Kaneko family, a Korean-Japanese household that lived there during the disaster. Though her parents often spoke about their family history and experiences during the earthquake, she struggled to truly connect with these stories, gradually developing feelings of isolation and frustration. Her father, who lost his job in the earthquake constantly clashes with family members, creating a perpetually tense atmosphere at home. The family’s stability further deteriorated when her responsible older sister decides to pursue Japanese citizenship.
