Nihon TV announced on 12/2 that actor Sato Ryuta will be acting in a special drama titled, “Necchuu Jidai” next year. The original series of the same name aired back in 1978, with actor Mizutani Yutaka as the enthusiastic teacher Kitano Koudai. The final ratings were 40% which is monumental for a school drama. It’s been roughly 22 years since a special for the series aired in 1989. This drama special isn’t a remake but a completely original reboot of “Necchuu Jidai.” Sato Ryuta will be portraying the role of Nagumo Daichi, a student who received guidance from Kitano, and becomes a teacher 30 years later. Also Nagumo will have a confrontational female teacher which he’ll butt heads with. This female teacher will be portrayed by the nationally popular actress, Matsushita Nao, known from “Gegege no Nyobo.” Sato commented on the drama reboot, “We will do our best and not fail the original ‘Necchuu Jidai’ series.”
