Sakai Noriko’s Book “Shokuzai” Becoming a Drama?

Last November, former actress Sakai Noriko (39) was found guilty on charges of drug possession and use. Her first autobiographical book, “Shokuzai” (Atonement) printed by Asahi Newspaper Publishing is now available throughout bookstores in Japan for 1260 yen. This book is a product of over 50 hours worth of responses from interviewing. The book is composed of 8 chapters and over 200 pages, and there’s 2 chapters dedicated to last summer’s drug case.

Bookstore employees in some metropolitan areas commented, “The number of reservations for the book weren’t much because of the abrupt publishing, but customers who see the book in stores are buying them one-by-one.” And according to representatives of the publishing company, 8 overseas companies in China, Taiwan and others have expressed interest in translating the book. There’s also talk of a company within Japan that wants to produce a drama of the book.
