Mizushima Hiro Donates 5 Million Yen in Books to Amami Oshima

Mizushima Hiro

Actor and Winner of The 5th Poplar Literary Award, Mizushima Hiro (26) donated 5 million yen in books to Oshima’s Amami in Kagoshima which was devastated by a record-setting downpour of rain in October.

Mizushima did not want his name to be revealed according to Poplar’s President Sakai Hiroyuki. “He’s a truly genuine and pure person,” President Sakai said.

Also when asked about Mizushima’s rejection of the prize money for winning the Poplar Literary Award in November, Sakai explained, “It’s his wish that the prize money be used to encourage others to create more works.” Later in his blog, Mizushima posted, “Is it a good thing to declare that I want to make a donation? I think it’s better to ideally support something by not revealing yourself compared to doing it publicly.” We now know what he was referring to.

Mizushima’s winning book, “Kagerou,” which goes on sale on the 15th just reached 430,000 in reservations. President Sakai commented, “We’ll be publishing a 2nd edition and 3rd edition bit by bit.” A 2nd edition is already in the works. The book will be available nationwide in bookstores from Hokkaido to Okinawa on the 15th.
