Actors Suzuka Ouji and Matsumoto Honoka will be joined by Mikata Ryosuke and Katayama Yuki in the upcoming Fuji TV “Monthly 9” drama “Usotoki Rhetoric,” set to start in October. This drama will air on Mondays at 9:00 PM, with the first episode featuring an extended 15-minute runtime.

The show is based on the manga “Usotoki Rhetoric” by Miyako Ritsu, which was serialized in “Bessatsu Hana to Yume” (Hakusensha) from 2012 to 2018. The manga, which concluded with 10 volumes, is a popular work with over 1 million copies sold. Fans of the original manga have long wished for a live-action adaptation. Now, the series is being brought to life by Nishitani Hiroshi, who directed the “Galileo” series (2007-2022), and producer Suzuki Masayuki, in the traditional Monthly 9 drama slot. The adaptation will feature a unique retro mystery involving a broke detective and a peculiar abilities user.

Mikata Ryosuke will play Hanasaki Kaoru, a detective at the Tsukumo Police Station and a long-time friend of the main character, Souma. In contrast to the laid-back Souma, Kaoru, who has lived a serious life, now holds the rank of Inspector. Despite being frequently manipulated by Souma’s smooth talking, Kaoru always finds himself cooperating, becoming a crucial ally in tackling various challenging cases alongside Souma and Kanoko.

Katayama Yuki will portray Fujishima Chiyo, the daughter of the wealthy Fujishima family, who lives in a grand mansion and travels in a chauffeur-driven limousine. Chiyo, with her bright and energetic personality, speaks her mind freely and has an untroubled, carefree demeanor. She loves mystery novels and admires detectives. Her encounter with Souma and the team, sparked by a certain event, leads her to develop a deep admiration for Souma’s detective work.
