Kimi no Tsugu Kaori wa (The Scent You Inherit) is based on a love story by Ogawa Maruni, the author of Hanayome Miman Escape, originally serialized on Comic Cmore. The story centers around Hirose Sakura, who was in love with Hoshii Mone during their university days. However, Mone, unaware of Sakura’s feelings, marries another man. Despite this painful experience, Sakura eventually has a child and raises her son, Toki, who is now a high school student. Life is peaceful until one day, Toki introduces his girlfriend, Kanae, who looks exactly like Mone and carries a scent linked to Sakura’s past. In a twist, Kanae turns out to be Mone’s daughter.

Hoshino plays Sakura, and Kato takes on Mone. This marks Hoshino’s first lead role in a drama in 10 years since Cinderella Date (2014), and Kato’s return to terrestrial TV after 14 years, her last being Pro Golfer Hana (2010). The drama is directed by Ishibashi Yuho, with a script by Shimo Tomomi. The same team behind Bokura no Shokutaku and Takara no Vidro, which portrayed pure romance between men, now brings a story of first love and familial bonds. Comments from Hoshino, Kato, and director Ishibashi, along with an illustration from Ogawa to commemorate the drama adaptation, have been shared.

It was also announced that the drama will collaborate with the British fragrance brand Miller Harris. Perfume plays a key role in the story, and Miller Harris products will appear in the series. To celebrate the partnership, a campaign will be held where participants can win Miller Harris fragrances through a lottery. Details can be found on the drama’s official X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram accounts.
