“Chaser Game W2: Beautiful Celestial Maidens” – Special Interview with Sugai Yuka & Nakamura Yurika
On September 19 (Thursday), the sequel to the popular revenge drama “Chaser Game W: My Ex-Boss is My Ex-Girlfriend,” which centers on a lesbian protagonist, will air. Titled Chaser Game W2: Beautiful Celestial Maidens, the new season will once again feature Sugai Yuka and Nakamura Yurika in lead roles. This season will explore the one-year gap between the breakup of its protagonists, Itsuki (Sugai) and Fuyu (Nakamura), and their eventual reunion, focusing on their relationships and interactions. In this special interview, Sugai and Nakamura discuss key points about the new season, their discoveries during filming, and what they’re excited about this fall.
“We want to bring our ideas to the table during filming”
Question: Season 2 is eagerly awaited by fans. How did you feel when you heard about the sequel?
Sugai: I was surprised at first, but I felt incredibly grateful that the fans had shown more love for the show than we could have imagined. I’m filled with gratitude and ready to give my all again.
Nakamura: The fan events we were able to hold were only possible thanks to the support of our fans. I’m really happy that the success of the first season led to a second one, and I feel honored to be part of it again.
Question: Did you two talk about the new season?
Sugai: We had some time to meet once our schedules settled down. Since Season 2 will pick up after some developments in their relationship, we thought it would be a good chance to bring new ideas to the project.
Nakamura: When we went out to eat together, I realized we both wanted to create something even better by collaborating more. I think we can approach Season 2 with trust and excitement.
“Season 2 will offer new developments”
Question: It sounds like we can expect a fresh story compared to the first season.
Sugai: The first season ended with Itsuki and Fuyu making the difficult decision to separate for the happiness of those around them. This time, the story continues from there, focusing on how they confront the world and find their own happiness. I think the story will delve deeper into their lives.
Nakamura: Fuyu’s character is Chinese, but in this season, a new character, a Korean influencer named Yorum, will appear. I feel the drama will have a more international vibe this time, and it’ll offer a new atmosphere. Fuyu’s mother might also play a role in stirring things up.
“Yorum is a key player in the story”
Question: What are your impressions of Yorum, played by Chise?
Sugai: Yorum is a cool, straightforward woman who has a past connection with Itsuki and has saved her in the past. Her character plays an important role in advancing Itsuki and Fuyu’s story.
Nakamura: Yorum is someone who doesn’t hide her true self. As Fuyu, I think her presence will make me reflect and grow. I feel she might also speak for us in some ways.
Question: This is your first time working together. Did your impressions of each other change during filming?
Nakamura: At first, I was careful with my words, unsure if Sugai would appreciate my jokes.
Sugai: Really? I had no idea! (laughs)
Nakamura: But after spending time together, we started to bond over little things, like grabbing snacks when we were tired. We became more comfortable with each other, and now she’s someone I really rely on.
Sugai: Yurika has a gentle and warm presence, and I was drawn to that from the start. Her energy lights up the set, and I’ve come to enjoy being myself around her. She’s someone I really depend on.
Question: You mentioned wanting to travel together. If you could, where would you go?
Sugai: I’d love to visit Taiwan.
Nakamura: Yes, let’s go! I’ll be your guide.
Sugai: I’d love to try some delicious food together.
“Embracing the fall season”
Question: As we move from summer into fall, what kind of fall are you hoping for?
Nakamura: I want to focus on health this fall. I used to be able to stay active without feeling tired, but recently, I’ve started to notice fatigue setting in.
Sugai: You’re still so young! (laughs)
Nakamura: I’ve realized I need to take better care of myself. I’m a big fan of fragrances, so I’ll incorporate them into my self-care routine to manage my energy.
Sugai: For me, it’s all about theater. Since Season 1, I’ve had more opportunities to be part of different productions, which has made me want to continue learning and growing. I’m excited to explore a wide range of works and absorb as much as I can.
